The Department

For the NSW Department of Education, children and young people are at the centre of all our decision-making. They ensure young children get the best start in life by supporting and regulating the early childhood education and care sector. They are the largest provider of public education in Australia with responsibility for delivering high-quality public education to two-thirds of the NSW student population.

The Challenge

As part of a Department of Industry to Department of Education Machinery of Government, 550 users in the training services department were still working out of G Suite whilst their colleagues were working from Office 365. This caused a number challenges with separate collaboration systems and access to data.

Furthermore, the Department of Education had to support and maintain multiple productivity systems. Our aim was to ensure all users mailboxes were successfully migrated to Department of Education, all Google Drive data was migrated to OneDrive for Business and that everyone had sufficient change and adoption materials to allow them to make the transition. All this with no downtime for users posts migration.

The Eighty20 Solution

We were engaged to develop a solution that enabled the NSW Education workforce to conduct their work from one system that was secure while still accessing their data. To achieve this, we:

Drove discovery workshops with key agency stakeholders and ran Go/No Go and change management activities

 

Migrated staff from G Suite to O36 using BitTitan as the key migration tooling to facilitate and support user transition.

Engaged all users and created materials to communicate the change, to enable a smooth transition, and drive adoption of new capabilities. All while ensuring all users retain access to their data as systems are replaced.

 

 

Provided post migration level 3 support. All delivered in a short timeframe (approx. 8 weeks)

The Outcome

550 users in the training services department (originally from the Department of Industry) have been migrated to Office 365, allowing them to work in the same system as the rest of the Department. Eighty20 Solutions migrated all users mailboxes to the same platform, all Google Drive data was migrated to OneDrive for Business with no downtime for users.
